Art Williamson
Art transitioned from this mortal coil on September 29, 2025.
Fellow K-94 DJ Randy Berner posted this recollection online:
"We got the sad news today that Art Williamson passed away...yesterday. Art was one of the pillars of K-94, Progressive DJ, morning news guy, Jazz program host (Art's Jazz Rangers) general curmudgeon and observer of life. Art and his lovely wife were some of the rotating number of denizens who actually lived on site "out in the woods". Art and I first met when i scaled the fire escape one night at the old WOWI-FM and crawled in the studio window to deliver an audtion tape...I was looking for a job. Art was outraged and told me this was highly irregular. As if he was regular in anyway. By the way, I did not get the job. I haven't seen him since our '09 reunion picnic. He will be missed. Rock-on Art."

Art said: "Progressive WOWI-FM was ‘my first and my best gig in radio!" Art joined the WOWI force in late 72/early 73 and stayed until the end, doing the very last show on Jan 14, 1975, rocking out til midnight… The last man sitting at the controls while armed thugs presented themselves…
(The last three hours from that last broadcast are posted on this page)
After WOWI, he was ‘Bill Archer’ at WNOR, doing the news; landed at K-94 from somewhere around 76-79 and perhaps a bit beyond, living in a trailer in Moyock.
He served time at the low powered yet progressive WOFM 92.1 (‘on the border’) for a while until it changed formats and the staff was pointedly dismissed. They modeled their station after WOWI's 'hand-picked music'.
Art even did some Big Band/Easy Listening radio in Richmond for a while before doing a solid stint at WHRV in Hampton Roads from 90-95 where those of you who were lucky, caught the Art and Rollie Show.
